About the Contest

The International Spirit of Math Contest is presented by Spirit of Math®, the global leader in math enrichment for high-performing students and teacher training for over 30 years.

With more than 30 years of success and over 11,000 students enrolled in 30 campuses across Canada, Spirit of Math® is changing the equation for math minds around the world. From our after-school classes, contests and camps to our expanding series of math workbooks, virtual resources and training for educators, Spirit of Math is influencing the way math is viewed and taught globally.

Since 1992, our students have been consistently placed on national and international mathematics honour rolls, and our alumni have obtained scholarships from some of the world’s top universities.

Held globally, the International Spirit of Math Contest gives students from grades 1 to 6 the opportunity to prepare, apply, and showcase their knowledge on the global stage. The contest provides an opportunity for students to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem-solving abilities.

History of the Contest

Held for the first time in 1999, the Spirit of Math Contest was initially offered to grades 1 through 4 Spirit of Math® students only.

Since 1999, Spirit of Math has tested the abilities of children globally, through a series of problem-solving questions, giving them the chance to put their skills on display, take home a medal, and get their name listed on the Spirit of Math National Honour Roll!

With an increasing number of students participating each year, Spirit of Math students earned 1,550 placements on national and international math competition Honour Rolls for 2015.

In 2018, the contest was opened to non-Spirit of Math students from all over Canada and Pakistan. Amongst all the grades 1 to 4 students that wrote the contest, more than 2,500 students earned placements on the Honour Roll.

In 2019, the 20th Annual Spirit of Math International Contest was written by students in Canada, Pakistan and USA.

Let’s bring the brightest minds together and let them shine all around the world.
